Cityscape Neighbourhood Information

The community of Cityscape is up and coming, still underdevelopment with only a handful of homes in the area. The community is not stopping with exciting visions of what the possibilities will include, a town-like community with major features found nowhere else in the city. The borders of the neighbourhood are Metis Trail, Country Hills Blvd, 60th Ave and 90th Ave NE.

There is a still a need to find better data in this community, but we do know some things for the purpose of determining what the community will look like in coming years. As of right now, there are just under 3000 residents living in this still-growing community.  But in that neighbourhood, we do expect a future population nearing 8-10,000 residents. There are still hundreds of homes to be built and many more planned. The main choice for this neighbourhood is the single-family home, as is fairly common in new neighbourhoods. But like many of the developments down south, there are large portions of the community planned for apartments and townhomes, a development that helps first-time home buyers land the property of their dreams while providing ample room for growth. We know that there are several young families living here, mainly couples with 1-2 kids. It’s one of the highly populated areas with preschool-aged children. The rapid increase has also brought a lot of attention from first-generation Canadians. This area is currently sitting at a 35% ratio of immigrants, fairly high for the city but pretty common in this area of the city.

The Cityscape Community Association is still finding its feet, although it has been making great strides in working with the developers of the community in attracting more attention to the neighbourhood. Many current home owners have been part of the planning and initiation of programs to demonstrate that Cityscape is a fun and vibrant place to be and live

Cityscape Amenities

The community is designed to be accessible, and that’s evident in every corner of the neighbourhood. First, it sits beside the Calgary International Airport, with many homes having the ability to reach the terminal in less than 10 minutes. Also, the residents here enjoy unparalleled access to the Stoney Trail Ring Road as well as Deerfoot Trail. These major arteries provide entry into all areas of the city.

Although there are plenty of shopping opportunities around the community, many Cityscape residents love to travel a few minutes north to find the CrossIron Mills shopping area. This area is the single largest shopping plaza in the city. It encompasses several square kilometers of ground and has dozens of stores that can’t be found anywhere else. The community is often using this complex as the base of their retail and service needs.

The community has several green spaces planned in the area, places for biking and walking and running. This is a chance for developers to try out some of the ideas surrounding communal spaces as a way to encourage more bonds between neighbours. Look for Cityscape to be a shining example that will serve as a guide to new communities in the future.  

Cityscape Schools

Because the age of the community is still so young, it’s to be expected that there will be a great number of schools in the area. These schools are designed to meet the unique needs of the students here, including many ESL classes and high numbers of classes in the younger grades. The schools in the area include Apostles of Jesus School, Saddle Ridge School, Hugh A Bennett School, Light of Christ School, Peter Lougheed School. Many of these schools only cater up to Grade 4 such as Saddle Ridge School and Bennett Elementary. That helps alleviate the massive demand for younger classrooms. There is also Nelson Mandela High School and Bishop McNally high School for the senior high aged students. The Fraser Institute, which ranks schools by academic performance, ranks Bishop McNally as 170th in the province, and has not yet ranked Madela High School as it is so new to the area.
