Citadel Neighbourhood Information

One of the driving forces for excellent Citadel real estate choices is the proximity to Stoney Trail. This ring road connects the community with every part of Calgary in just 30 minutes. When the road is completed in 2021, Citadel will enjoy unfettered access from the north to the south by this one road.  Citadel also feels very secluded and set apart with its northern location, giving it a quiet, relaxed atmosphere that all residents enjoy.

Citadel has a high income compared with the Calgary median income, with many of its residents holding tertiary degrees and certifications. Over 80% of the homes in Citadel are single-family dwellings with the rest made up of scattered apartments and some townhouses. The community attracts a strong sense of pride within the people of the Citadel. Real estate options focus heavily on buying homes and owner-occupied buildings.

Over 2 thirds of the homes in Citadel are occupied by families with children at home. Many couples choose Citadel to raise their kids in a healthy, safe environment. By all measures, Citadel is a vibrant and energetic community.   

Citadel Amenities

While Citadel does have a few amenities, it is serviced very well by the neighbouring suburbs that surround it. Just to the north is the Inland Athletic Park, a public park that holds several large fields perfect for soccer or football games and two full-sized ball diamonds. The park is habitually used by amateur teams and pickup games all summer. Besides this professional park, Citadel has two large green spaces with 4 ball diamonds and several fields between them.

One of the largest Chinese churches in Calgary is Westside Calgary Chinese Alliance Church, servicing the worship needs of the large Chinese community in the area. Just on the other side of Sarcee Trail, Citadel homeowners can visit the Superstore that is used by several communities in the area. Within a 10-minute drive is the CrossIron Mills shopping complex, a popular destination for all of Calgary.

Because of its location, Citadel residents can quickly access Highway 1A to head west out of Calgary. This opens up several locations such as Cochrane in 15 minutes, Ghost Lake in 30 minutes, and the Kananaskis in under an hour. Citadel is perfectly situated to be a community that enjoys both Calgary living and quick access to the wild lands of Alberta.

Citadel Schools

Citadel residents have access to excellent schools, including some specialty schools that bring in students from all over the north of Calgary. While there are only a couple schools with Citadel, there are several schools that are servicing the education needs of Citadel in close proximity.

This includes the Citadel Park School, a small Kindergarten to Grade 4 centre that puts special emphasis on advancing young children and setting them up for success. St Brigid School in the Catholic system has children from Kindergarten to Grade 9. There is also the Yufeng Chinese School, a specialty school that services the many immigrants that choose Citadel and the northwest as their home. The Chinese school helps retain a unique culture and language while teaching within a Canadian environment. Students can attend this school from Kindergarten right up to graduation, helping maintain strong bonds with their community and to their heritage.

St Brigid School is a highly academic school that ranks in the top 50 of schools in the entire province. Their commitment to excellence consistently puts their students at an advantage for the rest of their educational life. The neighbouring community of Arbour Lake has the popular Robert Thirsk High School. The new high school, that has been only open since 2013, has been beneficial in servicing the growing need for high school students in the northwest, an ever-expanding part of Calgary’s boom. As Citadel grows each year, the need for better educational options has made Robert Thirsk High School a strong choice for high schools in the northwest.
