Having a Healthy Work-Life Balance - Randi Scheuerman
Â
Randi Scheuerman has a reputation to uphold. She’s a wonder woman, and she does it all with grace, patience, and joy. She’s a powerhouse that so many of our agents look up to and turn to for advice.
So, of course, we had to find out her not-so-secret secret to success!
We caught up with Randi on a quiet morning after the kids headed to school and just before she ran out the door to her typical busy schedule.
What Does Success mean to you?
Success to me is a balance between work, family and fun. Finding that balance is when I feel most successful. With three kids, a husband, and a new puppy, life is busy. Some months are easier than others, and it’s much easier now that the kids are back in school.
Fun for us was typically travelling, so we’ve been missing that and have tried to sneak off for little day adventures instead. The thought of being able to take a trip with friends again soon (hopefully) is exciting.
Of course, family time is so important, but it can be tricky because I work a lot on the weekend when my clients are available. My kids are very close and love being together, so watching one of the boys play is a great way to get in that quality time together, even at the hockey rink.
How has moving your real estate business to Chamberlain Real Estate Group impacted your business and home life?
Moving my business to the Chamberlain Group has made me work for it more, but that was completely intentional. When I was switching over, it was very obvious that my business would accelerate, and I had put a lot of thought into it.
After taking the past six years to raise the kids, I was ready to trade back a little of the family time to find some of that work balance that I was craving, too. Now with them all in school, I get to work a bit more, which is what I always love to do.
I like to put as much effort into my work as I do into my life, so even though I have to work a bit harder to find the balance, it’s something I enjoy doing enough that it’s worth it for me.
Are you a mentor? What is your favourite thing to teach your mentees or your favourite “Aha” moment to see them have?
I think the biggest thing for me is just watching them find their confidence. When you’re starting – we’ve all been there, whether ten years ago or two months ago – when you’re new and start this job, there is no instruction. You go to school, and then you’re let go into the real world to try to sell yourself and figure out how this industry works.
So, watching new agents come in, you can tell they want it so bad, and they’re not sure how it’s going to happen. They’re being told it’s going to happen, but then watching it click, where they see it happen, and they love it, and you see that drive from that point on; it’s just really rewarding to see that.
I find that when a new agent picks the Chamberlain Group, that happens a lot faster than a solo agent out there trying to navigate this real estate world in a crazy market too! Just getting someone who isn’t super busy and is able to help you and answer your questions can be tricky when you’re by yourself. So, watching them find their stride and their confidence and run with it is really cool.
Not all teams are created equal. What about Chamberlain’s team structure do you think works so well?
I love the team structure in the sense that we’re truly a team, even as we are still independent business owners. We are there to help each other; we’re there to answer questions. We’re there every day to pump each other up, give each other motivation, and advise on scenarios that maybe some agents have never come across.
That’s amazing; to have a team when you need help, when you’re sick, or when you have to leave town. Even when you have multiple listings, and you can’t be at all of them at once, it’s great to have the extra hands and the team there to help each other. That’s something you don’t often get in this industry.
Also, you’re growing your own business with the Chamberlain Real Estate Group. You’re not being told what you have to do. They give you an outline for how to be successful, and then it’s on you to do it, and ask for help if you need it, and utilize the team and the resources that are available to help you grow your own business. So, it’s the best of both worlds in my mind.
What questions would you tell an agent considering a team to ask to find the right fit?
I think the biggest thing is knowing how much time you have to give vs how much the team expects. I know a lot of real estates agents aren’t full-time. Everyone here is. This is our full-time job, and we’re asked to go in 100% and give it our all.
If you were ever considering joining a team, it required expectations to be met on both ends. You need to be able to give as much time as they’re expecting, or it’s not going to work from the very beginning. You also need to be willing to learn and adapt.
It took me a long time to decide to move over to the Chamberlain Group because I wanted to make sure I could be a really good team player and team member and be there for everyone as much as they are there for me.
Also, our personalities just jived, there’s a little bit of everything on our team, which works well when you’re dealing with old clients, new clients, or people you’ve never met. There is a mix of communication styles, ages, and backgrounds here that make sure we can always find the perfect fit for each of our clients.
The Chamberlain Real Estate Group specializes in working with both new agents who are looking to get a head start on developing their business, as well as agents who have an existing business and want to add leverage to what they are doing to help more families transition in Calgary.
