Is It Worth Moving From Toronto to Calgary?
Over the last couple of months, we received inquiries from people who live in Toronto and other cities across Canada that want to move to Calgary. Are you planning on moving from Toronto to Calgary? If so keep reading or watch the interview below.
We had the pleasure of interviewing a couple who successfully moved here from Toronto. They shared their journey and all the fantastic things they have experienced in Calgary so far.
The Benefits of Moving from Toronto to Calgary
Meet Khushbu and Vineet. They are a newly married couple who lived and worked in Toronto. They were looking forward to starting a family soon and having a place to call home was of paramount importance, of course.
Both of the couple’s relatives live abroad, that’s why they were in search of a big enough house to accommodate family members who would visit them in the future. Having that kind of home in Toronto would definitely have cost a fortune.
When Kushbu searched for houses around Toronto to suit their needs, he found homes built around twenty to thirty years, amounting to $2,500,000 to $5,000,000. It was absolutely out of their budget to stay in Toronto and have a house the size that they wanted.
In 2020, Khushbu had the opportunity to visit a friend in Calgary and from that visit, he thought it would be a great idea to live here. He told his wife about it, and they did thorough research to decide if this was the right move for them.
With all the information they gathered, they reached out to the Chamberlain Real Estate Group to see some listings. They were happy to find a 2,700 square foot home in Northwest Calgary with a well-balanced community overlooking the valleys.
Is Calgary a Friendly City?
A great advantage in living in the digital age is being able to do so many things remotely. Kushbu and Vineet started the moving process even when they were still working in Toronto. Since they are both in the IT industry, moving to Calgary and keeping their jobs was feasible.
The first thing they did was get a feel for different Calgary communities to find the best one for them. It’s a good thing they saw Chamberlain’s YouTube videos talking about everything they need to know about each community! They also started their mortgage pre-approval process before moving to Calgary, so everything was prepared before getting here.
When they arrived in Calgary, a friend let them stay in their home and lent them a car for a few months while searching for a home to buy. They drove around the city to get a general feel of the neighbourhoods, and that’s how they figured out that living in the Northwest was the right fit for them. During the whole journey they found that Calgary was such a friendly and inviting city.
How to Move from Toronto to Calgary
Kushbu and Vineet took an extreme step in transitioning to their new home. Since their company wasn’t moving them, they had to pay for everything. They sold most of their belongings so they would not have to pay too much for courier charges. When they moved here, all they had was a couple of bags with their clothes plus five medium boxes shipped via Canada Post.
They knew that the risk of doing something in a rush and regretting it later was too high. That is why they wanted to go here first and take the time to decide on the best property that they could have.
Coming from the downtown Toronto area, Vineet was used to being surrounded by so many people and establishments. She thought she would not see another human being on the streets of Calgary and would not have enough entertainment in the city. But when they moved, she was surprised that everything they needed was available and within reach!
They also love having a yard at their detached home in the Northwest, which they never had before. Now, they do not have to go far to breathe some fresh air and do some stretching or walking.
Being in Valley Ridge is perfect for them because it is very quiet and secluded in a way, but it is still very near to the amenities they need. It has the right balance for them to have their own space to work and enjoy the family that they are looking forward to building.
One of the best things they love about their community is its proximity to the mountains. They
have gone up to Banff and Jasper so many times now. They love taking their visitors there since they didn’t have access to mountains in their previous place.
If you are also looking for a well-balanced, well-rounded community to suit your lifestyle, we are here to help you out. Send us an email at info@chamberlaingroup.ca, and we will be glad to help you transition to your new home as well!
