5_must_visit_paitos_in_calgary_and_banffLike you, we too like to take the time and enjoy life.

The hot weather is a reminder that we all need some outdoorsy time. And we’re not talking about a hike this time, but rather enjoying the summer sunsets as the evening breeze blows in.

Let's be honest, as much as we all say to each other in the winter, 'Why do we live here?', there’s no better place to be in Calgary (or out in Banff) than sipping drinks on the patio in the summer.

Because we are spoiled for choice in this city, here are some of our team’s top recommendations for patios in Calgary.

What are your favourites? Let us know in the comments below!

Uncommon by Leela on 17th Ave

(as recommended by Daniel Howlett)

Uncommon by Leela’s trick to lure you in is the combination of a cocktail bar and spa retreat in one. Don’t sleep on their fantastic patio set up. The drinks here are top-notch, served by staff that are incredibly passionate about what they do. The bartender’s skill helps even the most indecisive of us choose the perfect drink for those long Calgary evenings. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun, with plenty to see along the street. Be sure to get the Artesian Sour or the Sacred Aviary cocktails!

National Roof Top on Stephen Ave

(as recommended by Rob Campbell)

As a Calgary favourite, the National on 8th is a top choice for many people here. And for a good reason. The atmosphere on the roof is friendly and open. The patio is airy, fun, and looks over onto the always fascinating Stephen Ave. If you want more than just good drinks on a warm day, try the cornhole or ping pong, an excellent addition to this lively rooftop spot. Families are always welcome at this trendy patio right in the heart of downtown Calgary.

Bonterra Trattoria on 8th Street

(as recommended by Erin DuPont)

Some patios in Calgary have incredible drinks. Some just have great food. Bonterra Trattoria has both. This Italian-themed patio makes you feel like you’re right in the heart of the Tuscan landscape, the perfect location to impress that special someone. Get sweetheart points by taking your date to one of the most romantic patios in the city, Every course is incredible. Every dish is masterfully made. And every evening here will be better than the last. Must try!

The Radiant in Banff

(as recommended by Jared Chamberlain)

If you’re heading out of Calgary, don’t miss the patio at The Radiant in Banff. End your day in the mountains with this hidden gem. Recently opened this year, it seems like this is a local secret, but it shouldn’t be. Amazing tapas. Incredible experience. It’s a welcome way to unwind, overlooking the incredible Cascade Mountain while sipping from their extensive gin bar. Oh yeah, did we forget to mention the gin bar? With a mixture of local and imported gins, Radiant’s selection could be the best in the Rockies. Our favourite dish is the Fried Avacodo, a treat no matter how hot the weather.

Cold Garden in Inglewood

(as recommended by Erin DuPont)

In a list of the best patios in Calgary, it’s hard to say one is better than the other. But if you’re looking for a great local microbrewery that feels very Calgarian, the Cold Garden is the ultimate destination. Locally crafted beers in an eclectic atmosphere, this place is a magnet for everyone on those hot summer evenings. After a week of 30+ degree weather, the Cold Garden is exactly what you need. Plus, it’s one of the only patios in Calgary where dogs are not only permitted but welcomed. Be sure to order a growler when you’re there because you get to paint it and make it your own.
