Applewood Park Houses For Sale

The neighbourhood of Applewood Park is located at the eastern edge of Calgary. The community sits astride the Stoney Trail ring road, however, a good portion of that land is dedicated to industrial use and commercial applications. The portion of Applewood Park west of the ring road is the suburban part of the neighbourhood. Applewood Park was first established in 1982 and built and developed until the mid-90s. The borders of the neighbourhood are the train line to the north, Highway 1A,  84th ST SE, and 68th St SE.

The community has just 7000 residents, which is small compared to the actual land size of the proper neighbourhood. Within these residential borders, we find a high proportion of single-family homes, detached housing being the number one choice. You’ll also find many low-rise apartment buildings for an affordable way to live in Applewood Park for couples and singles. The community is nearly half comprised of first-generation Canadians, a very popular spot for those of Asian and Indian descent to settle down.  This community is one of the few in Calgary where there are more uneducated than those holding degrees or certificates. This is highly likely a cause of the immigrant status of many. Those who live here love it, with two-thirds preferring to live in the community for over 5 years. Many have extended their residence here for 10+ years. It’s a young community with families with school-aged children being the predominant household found in Applewood Park. The community highly values the family dynamic and the households find space and solitude in this neighbourhood.

The Applewood Park Community Association is the association run by the residents and for the residents. The association offers a voice to those living here and it gives value to those living here. They do so by offering events and initiatives designed to bring pride into the people, pride in their community and pride in their neighbours. 

Applewood Park Amenities

For those living in Applewood Park, the opportunities are bountiful. First, you have the position along both Stoney Trail and Highway 1A. Both of these roads can take you into the city’s downtore core, or around the city’s perimeter to anywhere else. There is also the nearby Trans-Canada Highway, a major road to access the mountains to the west. This is also the closest community to the city of Chestermere just outside the city limits.

For the residents, they have the option of going to Marlborough Mall for all their shopping needs. Although, there are a few stores within the community itself, basic necessities and services that residents can use if they don’t wish to travel far. Even the industrial side of things includes a large shopping plaza for several stores and brands. Nearby, Elliston Park hosts a yearly fireworks show as well as providing a lovely green space to use year-round. Elliston Lake is ideal in the winter for skating and pick-up games of hockey.

Applewood Park Schools

For schooling options, there are a few choices, including several unique options. They include James Short Memorial SchoolGW Skene School, and Penbrooke Meadows School. There is also St Peter Elementary and Abbeydale Elementary. James Short is an elementary school only up to Grade 2, catering to the many young children in the area. GW Sene is a school for just 3-5 classes, while the Catholic schools offer Kindergarten to Grade 6 classes. The Fraser Institute, which ranks schools by their academic performance, has St Peter ranked at 756th in the province, while other schools don’t have a Grade 6 class to merit a ranking by the system.

For high schools, the area is catered by Forest Lawn High School and Lester B Pearson High School. Both schools are very accessible and offer a range of programs to suit the many diverse students attending their classes.
